Palm Beach

Palm Beach is where American old money keeps its beach house, a slim barrier island of hedges, Mediterranean mansions and the kind of quiet that only serious wealth buys. For Australian visitors it makes a terrific contrast day to Miami's noise, and if you are staying at The Breakers or the Four Seasons, arriving by chauffeured car is not showing off, it is simply how the island expects you to turn up.

From Miami International the run is about 75 miles north, 80 to 95 minutes up the I-95, and from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood it is roughly 48 miles, an hour or so. Both are fixed-fare trips with us, long-distance fares starting at $129, which compares very favourably with what a metered taxi would ring up over that distance, and the First Class Mercedes S-Class is the right tool for this particular job.
