Australians tend to arrive relaxed about the wildlife, then get properly excited in the Everglades anyway. It is the only place on earth where alligators and crocodiles share territory, and the river of grass stretching to the horizon is a genuinely different kind of wild to anything back home; the Outback, but ankle-deep in water.

The classic outing is an airboat ride, and the main operators sit along the Tamiami Trail, US-41, heading west out of the city: Everglades Safari Park and Gator Park are roughly 25 miles from Downtown, 35 to 45 minutes away, while the Shark Valley entrance to Everglades National Park, with its observation tower and 15-mile loop, is closer to 40 miles and about an hour. There is no useful public transport out here, which is exactly why we run it as a timed two-way service.

It works like this: we collect you from your hotel, deliver you to the tour operator you have booked, and schedule the return pickup around your tour time, with a buffer for the gator show running long, because it always does. No waiting around in a car park with no phone signal wondering if the rideshare will accept the trip back. It usually will not.

One-way fares start at $75 and we will quote the return at booking. Morning is the go: cooler air, more active wildlife and softer light for photos. Bring sunscreen and a hat; you would think Australians would not need telling, but the sawgrass glare gets everyone.
